Groupe Mercure: serving real estate for over 80 years

For more than 80 years, the Groupe Mercure has had luxury and heritage real estate at its heart. Mercure Group experts can offer their discerning clientele a complete selection of distinctive properties and prestigious residences throughout France.

Bought in 1980 by Group President Pierre Chassaigne, the Groupe Mercure has been able to adapt to the evolution of the business and take advantage of opportunities to become a unique real-estate group, driven by its reputation and roots. Nowadays, the Group has 20 regional divisions throughout France.

The Groupe Mercure network has always been built around “family spirit”: a family-like, friendly environment guided by the values of trust, respect for traditions, honesty and professionalism, all within a clearly defined legal framework.

Experts in heritage real estate

Specialists and true experts in French heritage real estate, the Groupe Mercure offers the most comprehensive selection of exceptional homes available on the market. Charming houses, châteaux and rural estates. Our prestigious urban and rural real-estate stock offers a wide range of over 2,000 distinctive properties for those who love beautiful stone and who wish to restore and maintain our unique French architectural heritage.

The 20 Groupe Mercure locations are managed by top-class people who have outstanding knowledge of the local real-estate market. They each bring their expertise in the fields of agriculture, land, forestry and law. Each agency has access to agents who are able to determine a fair price for a property.

Thanks to a quality relationship- and partnership-based network with other professionals (architects, insurers, bankers, lawyers) and associations (La Demeure Historique, Les Vieilles Maisons Françaises, French Heritage Society), all Groupe Mercure agents are supported in the field and can offer their clients the best advice.

A development that combines modernity and excellence

Much like an example of transferring over a family property to the next generation who wishes to preserve its heritage, Pierre Chassaigne handed over the overall management of the Mercure Group to Olivier de Chabot-Tramecourt in November 2016. With over 25 years of experience in banking and insurance, Olivier de Chabot-Tramecourt is heavily involved in investment and business management.

Olivier de Chabot-Tramecourt foresees Groupe Mercure’s development being centred around 3 principle areas: continual adaptation to customer expectations based on the Art of Living in France, strengthening local teams and enhancing the international profile with new partnerships, a strengthened international team and new offices abroad.

International reputation

While the Groupe Mercure maintains a high-quality French clientele, it is no less concerned with responding as effectively as possible to growing international demand. The Groupe Mercure therefore has an agency in Marrakesh and also has support from numerous foreign correspondents in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, South American, China, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia.

In France, the Groupe Mercure has a team of employees dedicated to this foreign clientele in order to best meet its needs, offering an adapted service, linguistic proficiency, and perfect knowledge of the legislation in force to support and guide clients in their purchase and renovation projects.

The Groupe Mercure is extending its field of activity internationally through its partnership with the Mayfair International and Leading Real Estate Companies of the World networks.

Passionate about historical and architectural heritage

Beyond traditional real-estate negotiations, the Groupe Mercure is driven by a real passion for French historical and architectural heritage. Concerned about protecting this heritage, the Groupe Mercure has created the VMF- Groupe Mercure Prize (Vieilles Maisons Françaises – “Old French Houses”) which rewards the successful restoration of a distinctive property.

Since such properties remain a safe investment, the Groupe Mercure has published a “Guide to Preserving French Heritage”, allowing each owner to be supported in the renovation and maintenance of their property in order to add value to family heritage while complying with French architectural rules.
